The Internal Revenue Service plans to host Tax Professional Awareness Week starting Oct. 19 with a series of webinars, videos, guidance and tools ahead of next tax season, according to Accounting Today. Topics will include refundable tax credits, due diligence, identity theft prevention, cybersecurity, payment modernization, Automatic Exemption from Penalty, Saver's Match, Trump Accounts and other filing season priorities. During the week, the IRS plans to promote training resources for tax professionals. As the IRS prepares for the upcoming filing season by building on the historic accomplishments from the current year, I am pleased to recognize the important role that tax professionals play in that success and the steps IRS takes to support them, said IRS CEO Frank Bisignano in a statement Friday. Tax professionals further the IRS mission by educating taxpayers on how to comply with the law while helping them take full advantage of all the tax benefits to which they are entitled. The IRS is encouraging tax pros to visit Tax Professional Awareness Week on IRS.gov to find the various resources, registration information for the Oct. 21 webinar, along with other educational materials. The IRS also expects to make more resources available on IRS.gov throughout the year. For your office, this means free guidance on due diligence and cybersecurity before you file your next client return. Check the IRS website this week to register for the upcoming webinars.
