Nordstrom Rack returns to downtown San Francisco with a new store near Union Square
Nordstrom Rack is coming back to downtown San Francisco. The new store opens in fall 2027 at 2 Stockton St. It follows the closure of two nearby locations in 2023. This brings 51,500 square feet of retail space back to the city.
Nordstrom Rack plans to return to downtown San Francisco with a new store near Union Square, scheduled to open in fall 2027, according to KRON San Francisco. The 51,500-square-foot store will be located at 2 Stockton St., marking a new investment in the city's downtown retail district. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie welcomed the announcement, calling the retailer's return a sign of growing business confidence in the city. "Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco," Lurie said. The announcement comes after Nordstrom closed its five-story flagship store at Westfield San Francisco Centre in August 2023, ending more than 35 years at the downtown location. Nordstrom also closed its nearby Nordstrom Rack location at 901 Market St. On July 1, 2023. At the time, the company cited declining customer foot traffic and significant changes in the downtown market as reasons for the closures. Nordstrom Rack's planned return comes as city leaders work to attract businesses and shoppers back to downtown San Francisco. Mayor Lurie added that the city is making streets safer and cleaner while cutting red tape for incoming businesses.
