2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS get major engine overhauls and cloud-linked suspensions
Mercedes-Benz updated its popular luxury SUVs for the 2027 model year. The new GLE and GLS feature retuned suspensions and high-tech S-class engines. Grilles now display rows of small three-pointed stars.
If you drive a luxury SUV to your job sites or client meetings in Lakewood or Brooklyn, you will want to see what Mercedes-Benz is changing for 2027. Mercedes-Benz is giving its big GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLS models their second major generation update. Both vehicles get completely resurfaced front bumpers and new grilles packed with rows and rows of little three-pointed stars. Under the hood, the GLE engine lineup is completely overhauled with more power across most variants. The previous inline-four engine is gone, replaced by a new six-cylinder plug-in hybrid. Meanwhile, the larger GLS borrows its top engine straight from the updated S-class sedan. That beast is a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine featuring a new flat-plane crankshaft. Engineers worked hard to hide the noise shift so it still feels and sounds just like the older V-8 it replaces. The suspension on both models has been totally retuned for a smoother ride over rough pavement. The fancy E-Active Body Control suspension now uses information beamed down directly from the cloud to prep the car for upcoming potholes before you hit them. These heavy luxury haulers also come packed with all the sensors needed for hands-free driving technology. That hands-free capability will arrive later through a simple over-the-air software update. If you are shopping for a high-end vehicle to pull up to your next business closing in style, your local dealer will have plenty to talk about soon. At least your new ride will know about every single Lakewood pothole before your morning coffee even kicks in.
