Elon Musk says buying a neocloud is pointless as 3 stocks slide 2%
Elon Musk said neoclouds face a wave of closures.

The short version
- CoreWeave and Nebius shares dropped 2.3% each.
- IREN stock slid 2% in overnight trading.
- Musk said his firm SpaceX is not buying them.
- Debt markets have shut off financing for many companies.
Elon Musk just sent shockwaves through the tech world by calling smaller cloud providers pointless and warning of a massive wave of failures. According to Yahoo Finance, CoreWeave, Nebius, and IREN all extended their declines in overnight trading after the billionaire spoke out.
CoreWeave and Nebius shares dropped 2.3% each, while IREN slid 2% in late trading. Musk stated on X that more than 200 neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. He added that his rocket and artificial intelligence firm SpaceX has no interest in buying out any neocloud company.
Debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to financing for companies that lack independent revenue streams outside of artificial intelligence data centers. Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya warned that weak capitalization and data center delays could leave infrastructure underutilized by 2027. Traders watched retail sentiment dip as borrowing costs soar and questions mount over whether massive data center investments can generate sustainable returns.
CoreWeave has declined 11.6% in the past week as investors grapple with debt-fueled business models across the entire sector. Nvidia owns 10% of CoreWeave, leading some traders to argue that downside risk is mitigated by the chip giant. Musk recently announced that SpaceX raised $40 billion in debt to buy graphics processing units directly.
When a user asked if he was driving down prices for a buyout, Musk replied that it is pointless. Check your portfolio if you hold high-debt infrastructure plays before the dust settles.
