Check your software options for the upcoming Tax season. According to Accounting Today, Intuit, the financial software giant, is bringing back Credit Karma Tax to offer $0 federal and $15 flat rate state Tax return prep. Mark Notarainni, executive vice president and general manager of Intuit's Consumer Group, announced the revival to give filers a free do-it-yourself choice while its sister product TurboTax focuses more on live human support.
The software uses centralized financial data already inside Credit Karma to pre-fill information and let users snap photos of documents to skip manual data entry. All returns come with a 100% accuracy guarantee where Intuit covers IRS penalties and interest caused by calculation errors.
Members who open a Credit Karma Checking account can receive Tax refunds up to five days early. For the Tax year 2026 offering, users can also apply for a refund advance loan up to $4,000 with $0 loan fees and 0% APR.

While federal filing is free and state filing costs $15, customers can purchase add-ons like audit defense and live expert final reviews. When Tax software starts doing your bookkeeping from a photo on your phone, you just have to wonder if it will soon start arguing with the IRS for you.
