New York State awarded $249 million in grants for 181 projects to improve water quality and update aging infrastructure across the state. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the funding, which includes $206 million directed to environmental justice communities. The grants support initiatives to protect drinking water, reduce harmful algal blooms, and improve flood resiliency.

More than $246 million will fund 139 projects through the State Department of Environmental Conservation's Water Quality Improvement Project grant program. An additional $2.9 million will support 42 planning grants for stormwater management and culvert replacements. State officials say the investments target areas vulnerable to severe weather and pollution.

New York has invested more than $10 billion in water infrastructure and clean water projects since Governor Hochul took office. The state also allocated $17 million for road salt reduction efforts and proper salt storage facilities. Local leaders across the state praised the funding for securing municipal water supplies and protecting natural resources.
