Samsung is changing its official safety advice on overheating Galaxy Buds
Samsung is about to reverse its rules on hot Galaxy Buds. The old rule told you never to put warm earbuds in the case. App code shows you will soon be told to put them right in the case to cool.
If you use Samsung wireless earbuds during a long phone call or on a hot day, get ready for a big change in how you handle them. Samsung is preparing to flip its safety advice on what to do when your Galaxy Buds get too hot. For years, the company told users never to put warm earbuds back into the charging case. The old rule was that trapping hot lithium-ion batteries inside a closed case makes thermal stress worse. Your earbuds would beep loudly to warn you, and the manual explicitly told you to leave them out in the open air until they cooled down completely. But an app teardown of Galaxy Buds app version 9.0.10.1724 reveals that a total reversal is coming soon. The new code shows two major updates for when things get too warm. First, the earbuds will now power down automatically instead of just beeping at you. Second, the app will explicitly instruct you to put both earbuds in the case and wait. This is the exact opposite of the longstanding support page guidance. Experts think newer models might feature updated battery management circuitry that safely halts the charging current when heat gets too high. Until Samsung updates its official support documentation with the final word, keeping your hot earbuds out in the open air remains the safest bet. After all, nobody wants their pocket turning into a toaster.
