DoorDash is buying Instacart for $17,000,000,000 in a massive grocery delivery deal
DoorDash agreed to buy Instacart for $17 billion.

The short version
- The giant delivery app plans to merge DashPass with Instacart plus.
- Fewer competitors could mean fewer credit card perks and promos for shoppers.
- Check your cards and use your monthly credits before rules change.
DoorDash, the restaurant and grocery delivery app, has agreed to buy Instacart, the grocery delivery app, for $17 billion, according to DansDeals. The deal is expected to close in late 2027 or early 2028. That price is a sharp discount from five years ago, when DoorDash weighed buying Instacart for $40 billion to $50 billion during the busy pandemic delivery boom.
DoorDash has tried for years to build its own grocery delivery business from scratch, but struggled to catch up to Instacart. The company previously bought international delivery services Wolt and Deliveroo. DoorDash plans to keep Instacart running as a standalone app, but will combine DashPass with Instacart plus into one shared membership.
That combination could save money for families who currently pay for both, though many get those memberships free through credit card perks. Industry experts warn that less competition will likely cost consumers in the long run as the combined company cuts back on discount codes, gift card sales, and credit card perks.

Costco, the warehouse store chain, sells discounted DoorDash and Uber Eats gift cards, but stopped offering discounted Instacart cards. If you hold eligible Chase cards like United or Ink, check your account to activate your monthly DoorDash promos and Instacart plus memberships before the rules change. Take advantage of those credits while they last.
