Florida plans for the Affordable Care Act Marketplace are getting more expensive. On average, ACA premiums in Florida will be 10.4% higher next year, but that is on top of the 34% increase plans experienced in 2026, according to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

UnitedHealthcare of Florida Inc., a large health insurance provider, has one of the largest jumps in Florida for 2027 plans, with a 25% increase. In 2026, UnitedHealthcare customers saw a 32% increase in their monthly premiums. Dave Waalewyn, a 64-year-old former airline pilot from Leesburg, Florida, watched his marketplace plan cost hit $800 a month after losing his employer coverage, and face potential quotes up to $1,500 a month.

According to Central Florida Public Media, the soaring costs are being driven by the non-extension of enhanced premium tax credits. About 97% of Florida marketplace customers used the tax credit, according to research by KFF, a health policy organization that studies healthcare issues.
