Jamie Dimon says US economy is doing just fine and times are good

Jamie Dimon says the economy is in good standing right now.

The short version

  • He points to strong corporate profits and low unemployment numbers.
  • Sticky inflation and high energy prices still hurt your paycheck.
  • Your grocery and utility bills take a bigger bite each month.

Why it matters to you. Keeping a close eye on your monthly overhead costs while the broader economy sorts itself out.

Forget the constant gloom in the headlines. JPMorgan Chase, the biggest bank in America, says the U.S. economy is actually doing just fine. Jamie Dimon, the head of JPMorgan Chase, sat down for an interview with the Wall Street Journal to share his rosy outlook.

"At this moment in time, the economy is in good standing," Dimon told the paper. He pointed to strong economic growth, high corporate profits, and low unemployment as the engines keeping everything moving forward. But not everyone sees smooth sailing ahead for your wallet.

EJ Antoni, an economist at the Heritage Foundation, a big research group in Washington, warns that high energy prices are eating into your earnings. Antoni says that while artificial intelligence is driving a quiet Boom in productivity, exploding energy costs mean your paycheck buys less than it did back in February.

Those high prices at the pump and on your utility bill create a wide gap between what the big financial numbers say and how your family actually feels at the end of the month. Antoni argues that ending conflicts abroad is the only quick fix to bring energy prices back down.

As Dimon puts it, despite the sticky inflation and geopolitical worries, it is still good times.
