Nearly 200,000 workers have been affected by Tech industry layoffs across 2026, according to tracking data. TrueUp’s Tech layoffs tracker recorded 196,349 people affected by workforce reductions at technology companies as of October 23. Major employers including Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft have reduced staffing, while October brought additional cuts at eBay, Netflix, and Electronic Arts.
Amazon, the online retail giant, announced plans to eliminate approximately 16,000 corporate positions in January as part of a restructuring effort to simplify operations. Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, made substantial cuts while increasing investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and talent.
Microsoft, the software giant, reduced its workforce with approximately 4,800 positions recorded by trackers. Block, the financial technology company behind Square and Cash App, announced about 4,000 job cuts in February during a major reorganization. Oracle, the business software provider, reduced staffing by 2,039 workers across three reported reductions.
Netflix, the video streaming service, included employees working in technology and product development in its cumulative reported reductions. Artificial intelligence has become a major factor in discussions about employment, though not every reduction is tied directly to automation. For workers and job seekers, the cuts raise questions about hiring opportunities and whether companies are shifting priorities toward emerging technologies.
