Anthropic spent $2.75 million guarding Dario Amodei last year.

The short version
- That sum is more than four times his base salary.
- The artificial intelligence company cited mounting physical security threats to executives.
- Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, spent far more protecting its chief executive.
Anthropic, the artificial intelligence research company, spent $2.75 million protecting cofounder and chief executive Dario Amodei last year. That security bill was more than four times his $654,167 base salary, according to the company’s newly public IPO filing. The security measures accounted for more than 15% of Amodei’s $17.96 million in total reported compensation for 2025.
The company spent another $1.29 million on personal protection, home security, and transportation for his sister and cofounder Daniela Amodei. Anthropic’s board determined the enhanced protection was necessary after citing increased media attention and heightened business-related security concerns. The filing notes that digital and physical threats targeting artificial intelligence executives have surged as public attention on the technology grows.
In April, a man slipped into the lobby of Anthropic’s San Francisco office and threatened a top executive. Compared with other technology giants, however, Anthropic’s spending is modest. Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, spent approximately $22.5 million on direct security and family allowances for CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2025.
ISS-Corporate, a corporate governance research firm, noted that Amodei’s security bill was nearly seven times the median software company CEO security cost.
