Costco sells a complete heat-and-serve Thanksgiving dinner for eight for $200

Costco, the warehouse store chain, offered a 5-pound turkey breast and sides shipped in a cooler box.

The short version

  • Members paid $200 for the full meal kit.
  • Check if your local Costco or its online delivery has holiday meal kits left.
  • If you are hosting, compare the price to cooking from scratch.

My family paid $180 to have Costco handle Thanksgiving dinner. The prep was easy, and each dish tasted homemade, according to Business Insider. The meal came from the food-distribution company Fortune Fish & Gourmet through Costco, shipped right to the front door in a cooler box with easy reheating instructions.

The total came to $180 after a $50-off deal for members, and this year the same company is offering a near-identical dinner for $270, or discounted to $200 for Costco members. The box contained a 5-pound turkey breast, 24 ounces of turkey gravy, 2 pounds of mashed potatoes, green-bean casserole, mac and cheese, sweet corn, cornbread stuffing, 12 dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, and an apple cobbler.

Everything except the turkey came precooked in oven-safe containers, cutting kitchen time to under 30 minutes. The green-bean casserole was creamy and savory, the dinner rolls were crispy outside and soft inside, and the pumpkin pie tasted homemade. With six people eating a meal intended for eight, the family had plenty of leftovers and extra time to set a gorgeous holiday table with great-grandmother's china.

The only popular dish missing was yams, which the family did not miss. For anyone hosting a houseful of family without spending two days at the oven, ordering a delivered feast takes the stress right out of the holiday.
