Eli Lilly, the major pharmaceutical company, just reported third-quarter earnings and revenue that blew past estimates, according to CNBC. The company hiked its full-year sales outlook to between $91 billion and $92 billion, up from a previous guidance of $85 billion to $87 billion.
Mounjaro worldwide revenue rose 65 percent to $10.72 billion for the quarter. Zepbound posted $5.35 billion in revenue, up 49 percent from the year-earlier period. Demand for the blockbuster weight loss and diabetes treatments soared even as the company grappled with lower net prices in the U.S. Lilly posted net income of $6.45 billion, or $7.22 per share, for the third quarter.
The pharma giant's shares rose about 4 percent in premarket trading as the massive profit fuels a dealmaking spree. Lilly held a 63 percent share of the U.S. obesity and diabetes drug market in the third quarter. Chief rival Novo Nordisk held 36.6 percent of the market.
Eli Lilly also pointed to expanded U.S. coverage for obesity care, including Medicare's decision to start covering the drugs for weight loss.
