Trader Joe's, the neighborhood grocery store chain, has finally pulled back the curtain on its newest New Jersey expansions. According to the nautically themed retailer's website, new outposts are officially coming soon to 55 Hudson St. In Jersey City and 457 Mount Pleasant Ave.

In West Orange. Until now, the company had confirmed plans for both towns without sharing exact addresses or opening timelines. Industry trackers note the chain typically lists locations as opening soon three to six months before welcoming shoppers.

In Jersey City, the store takes space at a Tishman Speyer-owned mixed-use development along the Hudson River waterfront, sitting about a half mile from Whole Foods Market, the organic grocery chain. In West Orange, the store is converting an 18,767-square-foot space previously occupied by Metropolitan Plant + Flower Exchange at Mount Pleasant Plaza.

The township planning board approved the application earlier this year. Founded in 1967, the California-based grocery banner runs more than 670 stores nationwide and plans to add at least two dozen new locations this year. New Jersey currently hosts 20 stores, with local reports pointing to potential future sites in Montvale and Parsippany as well. For local shoppers, another neighborhood option means shorter lines and more private-label finds closer to home.
