Jeff Bezos gave Eva Longoria $50 million, and she says wealth isn't everything
Jeff Bezos gave Eva Longoria $50 million for charity work.

The short version
- She says you do not need wealth to make an impact.
- Mentoring small business owners matters just as much as cash.
- Everyone can support their community without spending millions.
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, handed Eva Longoria, the actress known for her role in Desperate Housewives, a $50 million prize to fund her charitable work. According to Fortune, the television star is pushing back against the idea that philanthropy belongs only to billionaires with massive fortunes.
The prize was created by Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, to reward people making major contributions to society. Previous winners include chef José Andrés and country music legend Dolly Parton. Longoria says the real power of the award is the trust and responsibility it represents for her foundation supporting Latina entrepreneurs.
Liz Baker, the CEO of Greater Good Charities, points out that waiting on billionaires to fix every problem leaves local communities behind. Her global nonprofit has distributed more than $1 billion across 121 countries since 2006. Baker notes that giving back does not always require grand gestures or huge bank accounts.

Most local organizations just need an hour of your time each week to help solve problems right on your block. You do not need a nine-figure check to be part of someone's support system.
