The short version
- The NJEDA covers up to 50 percent of commercial fleet charging costs.
- Grants range from $100,000 to $5 million for eligible businesses.

Why it matters to you. If you run a local fleet and need to upgrade your yard for electric vehicles, this grant can cut your hardware and installation costs in half.
Check your commercial fleet expansion plans. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the state's main business growth agency, is opening applications for the $25 million Take Charge Program on Monday, October 5, 2026. According to the NJEDA, the initiative is designed to help private commercial fleets build out reliable charging infrastructure across the state.
Every project must also include on-site renewable energy generation or energy storage systems to help manage power demand for the new chargers. For a local delivery or service business running vans and trucks, the upfront electrical upgrades often break the budget before a single vehicle plugs in.
The program provides grant awards ranging from $100,000 to $5 million to reimburse applicants for 50 percent of total project costs, with potential bonus increases of 5 to 10 percent for certain criteria. Eligible applicants include for-profit commercial organizations operating two or more existing commercial-use vehicles, including light, medium, heavy-duty, off-road, or maritime vehicles in New Jersey.
The funding comes from Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative proceeds allocated to the agency. An informational webinar will be held on Monday at 12 p.m. For interested applicants to learn more about the process.
